REQUEST FROM THORNAGE HALL
Thornage Hall Independent Living is a charity based in the village of Thornage, offering adults with learning disabilities the chance to live and work together. We are looking for volunteers to support in our day services workshops on a regular basis (preferably weekly), providing meaningful work and engaging activities to learn new skills and experiences, gaining confidence, improving self-esteem and becoming a part of a positive community.
Our workshops provide spaces and opportunities for adults with learning disabilities to express themselves through creative and structured activities. Our workshops are small groups (no more than six) supported by a Workshop Leader. Volunteers would work alongside the Workshop Leader to support those in the group each session with tasks including: helping to set up and oversee activities, some 1-1 work with individuals to help hone and refine their skills and knowledge, and encouraging positive engagement between the group. Volunteers have the option of supporting either a workshop in the morning (9am – 12:30pm) or afternoon (1:30pm – 4pm).
In return, volunteers will be part of a small, friendly and passionate staff team, be supported with a thorough induction into the role and have the opportunity to undertake meaningful work supporting individuals with learning disabilities to gain confidence and skills.
We are specifically looking for volunteers to support our woodwork, weavery and digital skills workshops, so if you have an interest or experience in woodwork, weaving or using computers (basic Microsoft packages and internet usage) then great! Equally if you have other skills or just a willingness to volunteer in your local community, we would also be delighted to hear from you.
